Many films have subtitles for hearing-impaired audiences. But what about blind people? Are they shut out from the world of “visual art?” Yu Weili says no.
As a film narrator at Xinmu Cinema in Beijing, his job is to describe films for blind audiences. “I tell them things about the characters, about their facial expressions, the scenes, the relationships and how the camera moves, so that they get a ‘visual’ concept of what is happening.”
