At the night of February 10th, the night before the Lantern Festival, Mount Emei holds its annual lighting ceremony at the Dafo Temple. The ceremony attracts many people, who express expectation on well-being.
Lights are the symbol of brightness and wisdom. In the Song Dynasty, Emei people had the custom of lighting lights for good wishes. In Buddhism culture, lightening lotus lights and peace lights means to brighten the hearts and the future.
In Emei, the custom has been inherited for generations. It is held every year.
The Dafo Temple of Emei is located in central Emei city. It was built in the Ming Dynasty, rebuilt in 1996 and opened to the public in 2008. Now the area surrounding it is a comprehensive multi-functional zone.
