China's ongoing Wedding Expo has attracted many businesses in the industry along with a host of couples looking to tie the knot. How to get married without breaking the bank is one of the major themes at this season's event.
Tingting takes a closer look.
Weddings are supposed to be occasions of ceremony and celebration, but the detailed preparations and staggering costs involved in planning the big day remain a headache. However, couples planning to say "I do" are now able to solve most of their wedding worries at the ongoing China wedding exposition in the Beijing Exhibition Center.
More than 1,200 wedding industry companies, in the areas of photography, fashion, jewelry, and catering, have attended the expo this spring, bringing in over 100 thousand new wedding items and promises of discounts.
Li Liang is the manager of one local catering company named Jinduleyuan.
"Couples only need a 15,000 to 18,000 Yuan budget to cater for 15 tables of guests at the wedding banquet."
Wang Yong is with the company Kela Diamonds.
"Mainland couples used to go to Hong Kong to buy diamonds, but recently, they can get a better price in expos like this or through online shopping."
Couples who were born in the 1980s make up most of the visitors at the expo. As the first generation, after China initiated the one child policy, the post 80s generation was once considered by many as 'spoiled and material'. But this spring, with an economic gloom that has yet to be lifted, many young couples show a very rational attitude towards wedding spending.
"For the wedding banquet, I'll only invite close relatives. I think 4 or 5 tables for dinner will suffice. I can only afford 1,000 Yuan per table at most."
"My budget for a pair of wedding rings is at most 10 thousand yuan, no more."
"What we really care about is whether the products are practical and useful."
The China Wedding exposition is organized by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Since its inception in 2006, it has become an important venue for companies to showcase their wedding products and for couples to learn about new wedding trends and cultures.
This year's spring expo marks the 13th time the event has been organized in China, and will run from March 19 to March 21.
