Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum held 'Golden Pig Celebrating New Year' Exhibition for Chongqing citizens

On Jan 29, the Chinese Zodiac exhibition 'Golden Pig Celebrating New Year – Chinese New Year in Museum' was launched by Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum. During the exhibition, about 260 exhibits have shown traditional culture related to the Chinese Year of the Pig to visitors.

Du Zhiming, the research librarian of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum said that the exhibition mainly displayed the history of pig husbandry in China and the traditional culture derived from it. The exhibition also has displayed literary and artistic works themed on pig.

In addition, the pig bone remains from New Stone Age, pottery with the shape of pig from Han Dynasty, pig-shape jade ware from Jin Dynasty, pig-shape ware made of talc or agate from Qing Dynasty and other pig-related exhibits are also on exhibition. In order to make visitors visually learn about the culture about pig, the museum has also recovered pig pen in the ruins of Banpo in Xi'an, Shaanxi, and the scenarios of sacrifices to god with pigs in Wushan County, Chongqing.

The museum has developed games on WeChat for the exhibition. Visitors can scan the exhibits to collect cards for winning peripheral cultural and creative products. During the Chinese Spring Festival, the museum will also hold activities such as New Year painting and paper carving with the shape of the pig.

Cheng Wuyan, the curator of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum said that the museum had successfully held theme exhibitions of Chinese Zodiac monkey and dog. Cheng wished to take the Chinese Spring Festival as an opportunity to  popularize Chinese Zodiac culture and enrich Chongqing citizens' daily life through Chinese Zodiac exhibitions.
