Audi's First All-electric Vehicle Production Base in China Starts Operation in Changchun

At 19:40 on June 28, the groundbreaking ceremony of Audi FAW NEV project was held in Changchun International Automobile City, Jilin Province, launching Audi's localized production project of PPE platform-based all-electric vehicles for the Chinese market.

The Audi FAW NEV project will be divided into two phases, with a total investment amount of CNY 35 billion (USD 5.2 billion), and is scheduled to be put into production by the end of 2024. The new production plant will be Audi's first plant in China, where only all-electric Audi models roll off the line. The factory is designed to produce more than 150,000 vehicles a year. In addition to a press shop, welding shop, paint shop, and vehicle assembly shop, there will also be a high-voltage battery assembly facility.

It is reported that the new plant will cover an area of around 150 hectares, and a total of 20 buildings will be erected within it by the end of 2022. All plant processes will be intelligently networked under an all-new IT architecture, implementing Audi's "Mission: Zero" environmental program that promotes sustainable production. Production based on the PPE platform will begin, starting with models from the Audi A6 e-tron and Audi Q6 e-tron series.

Audi has been producing models for the Chinese market through the FAW-Volkswagen plants since 1988. As a result, numerous quality suppliers have already been located in Changchun. The mature industry chain will inject great vitality into Audi FAW NEV project.
