China Urges Sincerity and Flexibility to Be Shown for Reviving Nuke Talks

      Anchor:

Meanwhile, China is expressing hope for an early restart of the negotiations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Kong Quan, is urging all parties to be patient in working towards renewed talks. Lin Lin reports.

      Reporter:

With the Chinese special envoy to Pyongyang returning with the good news that North Korea is still persisting in its nuclear-free stance, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has called for all six parties to the disarmament talks to be more flexible in efforts to resolve the nuclear standoff, saying the situation is still precarious, despite signs that Pyongyang might rejoin stalled negotiations if conditions are right.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan describes the nuclear issue as complicated, and time-consuming, so patience from all sides is needed.

(act in Chinese, track15 , 2a-soundbite-0222 Kong Quan)

"We think that all sides should work towards the same goal with a sincere and flexible belief in an early resumption."

Kong Quan also made clear that although no deadline is being set, active efforts will be decisive in resolving the issue.

Commenting on the latest hint from Pyongyang, US top nuclear envoy Christopher Hill also avoided giving an artificial deadline for the re-commencement of the talks, calling instead for coordinated action to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear program.

      (act in English, track 33)

“I think we have made it abundantly clear on many occasions that this is a very serious problem and requires our attention. So we are looking forward to getting the process going as soon as possible and when it does, we'll be ready and in a mood to find a solution."

China hosted the first three-rounds of six-party talks, involving North and South Koreas, China, Russia, the US and Japan, but failed to persuade Pyongyang towards nuclear disarmament. North Korea quit the talks earlier this month after an announcement confirming it did posess nuclear weapons.

比如:although ten years passed by, she has been still persisting in his return. 例如:he is persisting with fulfilling his dream.

新聞中的the first three-rounds of six-party talks指的就是六方會談的前3輪會談。
