Learn Chinese Chinese Character Stroke Order Rules With Animated Examples
Learning the proper stroke order for writing Chinese characters has always been very important for getting the proper shape of the characters and as an aid in memorizing the characters themselves. In modern times, it is also necessary for input of characters by drawing them on mobile devices. Fortunately, the proper stroke order is easily learned once a few basic rules are followed.

- Left to right for horizontal lines and side-by-side components.
- Top to bottom for vertical lines and vertically-stacked components.
- Horizontal before crossing vertical lines.
- Character-spanning lines last.
- Left-falling diagonals before right-falling diagonals.
- Center before symmetrical side strokes.
- Horizontal before left-falling diagonals.
- Outer to inner components for enclosures that are open at the bottom .
- Inner to outer components for enclosures that are open at the top .
- Split outer sequence when outer enclosure is open to the right or fully enclosed.
- Dot at the top left or middle first; dot at the top right or inside a component last.
