On April 2 (local time), the Trump administration announced the imposition of new tariffs on over 180 countries and regions. By April 9, it declared a 90-day pause on these "reciprocal tariffs" for some countries while retaining the universal 10% base rate. On April 11, it proclaimed that certain products, including electronics, would be exempt from the countervailing tariffs. By April 13, Trump reversed course again, claiming that no exemptions had been granted. Such constant back-and-forth on major policy decisions makes it all feel like a child’s game of pretend. But where does that leave a country’s credibility? And dignity?
