Mini Series Yan Hu Ren Jia · Nan Feng Zhi Wo Yi (Salt Lake Family: The South Wind Knows My Heart ) Begins Filming in Yuncheng

Recently, the mini series Yan Hu Ren Jia · Nan Feng Zhi Wo Yi (Salt Lake Family: The South Wind Knows My Heart), a key project promoted by Shanxi's cultural tourism sector, officially commenced filming in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province. Set against the backdrop of the salt lake region in southern Shanxi in the early 1990s, the series focuses on the struggles of Du Caixia, a laid-off female worker, and Gu Nanchuan, a technician at the salt chemical plant. While portraying the sweeping transformation of the era and the characters' perseverance, the production also weaves local cultural elements into the narrative—including Yuncheng-style big plate chicken, Jishan fried dough twists, and Wenxi steamed cakes into the plot, along with innovative applications of salt lake brine and saltpeter. These details offer viewers an immersive experience of the folk customs and regional cultural heritage of southern Shanxi as they connect with the characters' journeys. Currently, the crew is fully engaged in set construction and scene shooting. Once post-production is complete, the series will be released simultaneously on mainstream video platforms and local cultural tourism promotion channels.

Local Rural Mini Series Shang Men Nv Xu (The Live-In Son-in-Law) Begins Filming in Shiyan

On November 27, Shiyan, Hubei's first local rural mini series, Shang Men Nv Xu (The Live-In Son-in-Law), held its opening ceremony in Baihuagou, Liaojiacun, Maota Town, Maojian District. The 23-episode mini series, with each episode lasting 2 minutes, and is set to premiere in mid-December on platforms such as Hongguo Short Drama, Douyin, and Fanqie.

Shang Men Nv Xu tells the story of Zhang Ming, a live-in son-in-law who, after enduring humiliation from his wife's family and conflicts over demolition compensation, awakens to a new life alongside his father. As a fully local production, the entire cast and production team hail from Shiyan. The series is promoted by Hubei Zhilv Media, guided by the Converged Media Center of Hanjiang Normal University, and supported by the local government and village committee.

They aim to train villagers to participate and increase their income, while showing Shiyan's scenery, food, and local stories through the series. They will prepare 4–6 new mini series in December and are now openly recruiting creators, performers, and investors to help promote the integration of local cultural tourism with the mini series industry.

Mini Series Production Teams Praise Nanhai Island for Creating a Beautiful Love Story

On November 30, three modern-themed mini series, including Shuang Xiang Xu Mou (Mutual Plotting), officially wrapped filming at the Nianli Square in Danjiaxu on Nanhai Island, Maoming City. On the same day, the major police-themed online drama Di Er Xian Chang (The Second Scene), with an investment of over ten million yuan, also held its launch event. In addition, the Changdu Literary Creation Incubation Center, Maoming "Culture & Tourism +" Mini Series Creation Center, along with the Maoming (Nanhai Island) Mini Series Industry Economic Service Center and six other platforms supporting the mini series filming industry, were unveiled.

The completed mini series used the Nanhai Island coastline, Danjiaxu, and Yanjingling as main filming locations. The shoots blended local Danjia lifestyle scenes with traditional festival customs, giving the series a distinct regional charm. At the same time, the mini series industry has created significant employment opportunities for the local community, offering over 300 extra-actor jobs. It has also boosted related sectors such as homestays and restaurants, attracting tourists to visit cultural landmarks. This deep integration of "mini series + cultural tourism" is helping Nanhai Island upgrade from a filming location to a major creative hub for mini series in western Guangdong.

China's Mini Series Embrace a Shift Toward High-Quality Production

Behind the rapid expansion of the market, China's mini series industry is undergoing a transformation from "quantity accumulation" to a "quality breakthrough." The mini series sector is no longer confined to only "intense conflicts and major plot twists." Over the past year, many creators have begun exploring more emotional and heartfelt stories.

As industry competition shifts from "traffic efficiency" to "quality improvement," upgrading the entire production process has become a shared goal. Industry professionals note that the transformation of mini series can be seen in three key aspects: First, themes continue to expand. Mini series now encompass genres traditionally seen in films, with creators venturing into new, more imaginative directions. Second, the industry is moving toward higher-quality production. Vertical-screen storytelling is increasingly using audiovisual language precision, enhancing expression through light, shadow, and imagery. Third, the entire production process is being upgraded. Acting, editing, and music are aligning more closely with professional film and TV standards.

Looking ahead, industry competition will focus on value and quality. Creators will continue to refine content, harness technological innovations and public participation, and drive mini series toward high-quality, international development, aiming to improve mini series so they not only fill fragmented time but also carry deeper social significance.
