On April 9, the roar of machinery marked the groundbreaking of Phase II of the CREC High-Tech Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing Base in Chengdu’s Xinjin Economic Development Zone. Following the successful operation of Phase I, this new milestone solidifies Xinjin’s role as a powerhouse in advanced manufacturing, injecting fresh momentum into the region’s industrial upgrade.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Spanning 237 mu (approximately 39 acres), the Phase II project includes 16 structures such as integrated workshops, sandblasting and coating facilities, hazardous waste treatment plants, and R&D centers, with a total floor area of 40,000 square meters. Constructed by China Railway No.2 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the base is slated for structural completion by October 2025 and full operation by early 2026.

As over 90% of China’s metro tunnels and major river-crossing tunnels rely on shield tunneling technology, this base will bolster Southwest China’s capacity in high-end engineering equipment. Leveraging China Railway Group’s expertise in rail transit, the facility will specialize in shield tunneling machines, bridge steel structures, and hydraulic steel structures, driving innovation in smart infrastructure.

Upon full operation, the base is projected to produce 11 shield tunneling machines and 50 specialized tunnel construction units annually, alongside 50,000 tons of steel structures, generating over 1.8 billion yuan in yearly output. It will also create 1,000+ local jobs, energizing Xinjin's economy.
