On October 21, the meeting of the Statistical Specialized Group under the Joint Office for Promoting the Development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle was convened in Chongqing. The session reported on the development achievements of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle over the past five years, as well as the progress of statistical research collaboration between Sichuan and Chongqing. Data indicates that the regional development capacity and comprehensive competitiveness of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle have been continuously enhanced.
The economic scale has been continuously expanded. From 2020 to 2024, the regional GDP of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle crossed two trillion-yuan thresholds. In 2019, the figure was less than 6.4 trillion yuan. In 2021, it exceeded 7 trillion yuan and reached 7.5 trillion yuan. In 2023, it acheived 8 trillion yuan and surpassed 8.2 trillion yuan. In 2024, it reached 8.7 trillion yuan.
The quality and efficiency of development have been steadily improved. Over the past five years, the per capita GDP of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle has increased by two ten-thousand-yuan thresholds. In 2019, it was 65,000 yuan. In 2021, it broke through 70,000 yuan and reached 76,000 yuan. In 2023, it exceeded 80,000 yuan and approached 84,000 yuan. In 2024, it reached 88,000 yuan. The average annual growth rate was 5.3 percent, 0.5 percentage points higher than the national average.
The industrial foundation has been continuously strengthened. In 2024, the added value of the primary industry in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle broke through 600 billion yuan, reaching 620.22 billion yuan, with an average annual growth of 2.9 percent. The added value of the secondary industry exceeded 3 trillion yuan, reaching 3.1248 trillion yuan, with an average annual growth of 5.2 percent. The added value of the tertiary industry was 4.97428 trillion yuan, with an average annual growth of 6.0 percent, the fastest among the three industries.
High-level innovation platforms have been accelerated. The Chengdu-Chongqing Comprehensive Science Center, the Western Science City, and the China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City have been rapidly developed. The number of national major scientific and technological infrastructure increased from seven in 2019 to 10 in 2024. Sichuan and Chongqing now share 14,000 sets of large-scale scientific research instruments and equipment.
