In October 2025, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Sichuan Province announced the third batch of outstanding Beautiful Rivers and Lakes cases in Sichuan, with Suining's Zi River being selected.

The Zi River, the left tributary of the Fu River, spans 321 kilometers with a basin area of 5072 square kilometers. It previously faced multiple ecological challenges including insufficient coverage of sewage collection networks, prominent issues with combined sewer overflows and direct discharge and inadequate control of agricultural non-point source pollution.

After comprehensive pollution prevention and control, the Zi River now achieves an environmental compliance rate exceeding 90%. Fish species have diversified from 23 to 53 and aquatic plant coverage has improved by 40%. There are 12 waterfront viewing platforms, ecological revetments of 4 kilometers and 260,000 square meters of restored riparian zones. The cultural tourism IP developed around the Zi River's ecological restoration attracted over 2.8 million visitors in 2024, driving a 120% revenue growth for surrounding restaurants and homestays.
