On March 27, a press conference for the 2026 ICF Canoe Marathon World Cup was held in Chengdu.

The event is scheduled to take place from May 20 to 24, 2026, in Bazhong, Sichuan, China. May 20 is designated for registration, May 21–22 for official training, and May 23–24 for official competition. Approximately 400 athletes from over 20 countries and regions are expected to participate.

According to the International Canoe Federation, Bazhong was selected as the host city after a comprehensive review of factors including its geographical location, event-hosting capabilities, and cultural resources. The city was deemed suitable for water sports, capable of hosting international competitions, and distinguished by its unique character as a “city of mountains and waters.”  

As a National Civilized City, a National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone, and one of China’s Top Ten Most Beautiful Cities, Bazhong is home to one UNESCO Global Geopark, one national 5A-level tourist attraction, and 21 4A-level scenic spots. Nourished by its natural landscapes and steeped in history, Bazhong is both a living landscape painting and a cultural treasury.

By leveraging the energy of the competition, Bazhong aims to attract visitors, retain them through quality services, and sustain momentum with industrial development. The city is creating a new model that combines “watching the race + exploring Bazhong + enjoying local experiences,” ensuring visitors enjoy a fulfilling experience beyond the race. Additionally, in coordination with occasions such as International Museum Day and China Tourism Day, Bazhong plans to integrate its scenic spots, commercial districts, and cultural venues by offering joint ticket discounts and special experience activities. This will turn the competition into a showcase for the city and transform the influx of visitors into a tangible driver for Bazhong’s tourism and consumption growth.(by Liu Yongzheng)
