On July 9th, the 2026 Global Giant Panda Cultural Exchange Event officially came to a close in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This global cultural exchange relay, with panda as its cultural ambassador, held four thematic dialogues in Chengdu (China), Bonn (Germany), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), centering on four major topics: "Panda and Technology: Innovation and Co-governance," "Panda and Communities: Shared Prosperity and Livelihood," "Panda and Ecology: A Community of Life," and "Panda and Civilization: Mutual Harmony and Shared Beauty." Using the panda IP as a bridge, the event leveraged technological empowerment, grassroots governance, ecological philosophy, and cross-cultural mutual learning to spark global resonance.

In April and June of this year, the two home events in Chengdu focused respectively on technological innovation and grassroots governance. The first session, "Panda and Technology: Innovation and Co-governance," was held at the Century City International Convention Center, featuring displays of panda robots, AIGC interactive experiences, and intangible cultural heritage projects, alongside the screening of three documentaries and an AIGC audiovisual industry seminar. The second session, "Panda and Communities: Shared Prosperity and Livelihood," took place at the "Shan Shang · Wen Ming Li" New Era Civilization Practice Park, where robot pandas served as guides, and local cultural scenes such as embroidery, hemp weaving, and neighborhood concerts were showcased. The co-construction and co-governance case of Fengshu Community vividly demonstrated the achievements of grassroots governance. Many foreign guests remarked that Chengdu's blend of technological vitality and humanistic warmth made the concept of 'human rights protection' tangible and accessible.
The two overseas stops extended the dialogue to ecological and civilizational dimensions. In June, the Bonn session, themed "Panda and Ecology: A Community of Life," featured discussions between Chengdu and its sister city Bonn on sustainable development and intangible cultural heritage preservation. Heinz Ossenkamp, former Vice Federal Chairman of the German Civil Service Federation and Trade Union, called for promoting ecological symbiosis and industrial synergy through panda culture, while the Bole Chinese Choir performed two songs named Jasmine Flower and Chengdu. The closing session in Kuala Lumpur on June 29th, themed "Panda and Civilization: Mutual Harmony and Shared Beauty," featured a collaborative performance of the Jasmine Flower and Hibiscus suite by Chinese and Malaysian musicians, wearing Hanfu and Nyonya kebaya costumes showcased together on the same stage. Follow-up exchange activities continued until the official conclusion on July 9th. Cuilin Xiao, Acting President of the Malaysia-China Tourism and Cultural Promotion Association, noted that Chengdu's parallel development of "urban vibrancy" and "internationalization" offers a reference for Malaysia's urban transformation, and expressed hope for deeper cooperation in the digital economy and youth exchange programs.
The organizer stated that this event, using the panda IP as a bond, connected the four themes of technology, community, ecology, and civilization, providing an innovative practical case for the global localization of urban cultural IPs while also building a tangible platform for exchanges. From the banks of the Rhine to the Strait of Malacca, Chinese and foreign guests experienced an open and welcoming image of Chinese cities through their interactions, as Eastern wisdom, carried by culture, sailed toward a broader space for international dialogue.
