Recently, a delegation from the 2026 Chengdu International Sister-City Universities Youth Summer Camp visited Chongzhou City to take part in a cultural study tour that combined the city's ancient charm with its modern rural appeal.

On-site Visit

During the event, the delegation arrived at Yuantong Ancient Town and visited a number of distinctive landmarks, including the Luo Family Compound, the Huang Family Compound, the Character Tower and the Guangdong Guild Hall. The well-preserved wooden houses with blue-tiled roofs, the criss-crossing streets, alleys and courtyards, and the simple yet elegant architectural style of Western Sichuan folk dwellings vividly recreated the vibrant scenes of daily life in the water towns of Western Sichuan, allowing the delegation to gain a deep appreciation of the artistic craftsmanship of Western Sichuan's ancient architecture and the charm of its diverse and interwoven regional culture.

On-site Visit

The delegation then proceeded to Daoming Bamboo Art Village to experience first-hand the charm of Daoming bamboo weaving, a national-level intangible cultural heritage.

Guided by a tour guide, the delegation visited key locations in turn, including the Shuli Rural Art Gallery, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Market and the Chongzhou City Traditional Crafts Promotion Association. They gained a systematic understanding of the complete production process of Daoming bamboo weaving—from raw material preparation and hand-weaving to creative design—and listened to stories of how the craft has been preserved through the generations whilst embracing innovation.

Tour of the site

This international youth study tour between sister cities has provided an excellent platform for the international show, exchange and promotion of Chongzhou's intangible cultural heritage. With culture as their bond and intangible cultural heritage as their common language, young people from China and abroad have deepened their mutual understanding and strengthened their bonds of friendship through interaction. This has not only enabled young people from overseas to gain a profound appreciation of the beauty of Chongzhou's intangible cultural heritage, its rural landscapes and its cultural heritage, but has also allowed Chongzhou's distinctive intangible cultural heritage to reach beyond Western Sichuan and engage with the world, thereby infusing the international dissemination of traditional culture with youthful vigour.
