Recently, the project entitled "Key Technologies and Applications for the Integration of Coal Gangue-Based Lightweight Aggregate High/Ultra-High Performance Concrete Materials and Structures", in which China West Construction Group No.8 (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. participated, passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organised by the China Building Materials Federation. The appraisal concluded that this scientific and technological achievement has, on the whole, reached an internationally leading level.

It is reported that this achievement addresses the technical challenges associated with the high-value utilisation of coal gangue solid waste and the difficulty of simultaneously achieving the properties of "lightweight, high-strength and low-shrinkage" in lightweight aggregate concrete. It has overcome core technical challenges such as the environmentally friendly production of high-strength lightweight aggregate based on coal gangue, the formulation of high-performance concrete, and pumping over long distances, and has innovatively developed a complete structural system for the reinforcement and protection of steel bridge deck pavements and a comprehensive structural system for the reinforcement and protection of bridge piers and columns, achieving technical breakthroughs in the disposal and utilisation of coal gangue, the enhancement of concrete performance, and vertical pumping for super-high-rise construction.

At present, the relevant technology has been implemented in major projects such as super-high-rise buildings and long-span bridges, yielding significant economic, social and environmental benefits.
