2019 Dragon Boat Culture Festival Kicked off in Zigui County, Hubei Province

In the morning of June 6th, the opening ceremony of 2019 Dragon Boat Culture Festival kicked off at the hometown of a famous ancient poet Qu Yuan in Zigui county, Yichang city of Hubei province. Thousands of people gathered at Qu Yuan square to memorize this poet at the banks of the Yangtze River.

On the sacrificial ceremony, officials and guests came to the credence table and presented flower baskets; poets, scholars and model people presented bluegrass; the descendants of Qu Yuan in Zigui county and Taiwan province scattered flower petals.

Zigui county is the hometown of Qu Yuan, who is seemed as a spirit mark of the county. It is the tenth year that the Dragon Boat Festival is listed into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. With the theme of “Dragon Boat Festival, the World Day”, 2019 Dragon Boat Culture Festival has held a series of new and original activities including cuisine and culture exchanges, the intangible cultural heritages show and others. “The most people making Zongzi” activity to challenge Guinness World Records completely presented the intangible culture and gathered up the emotion of folk custom.
