"The first harvest of 250 kilograms in total has been booked up," Zhong Zaorong, who returned to Tonglu to start his own business, said while packaging. "Though the yield isn't quite high, all nuts are relatively big and full."
Chinese torreya nuts, famous for their aroma, are known as one kind of good dry fruit. It takes about ten years, a respectively long period, from seedlings to fruiting plants. It is reported that land of 667 square meters can be planted with around 20 Chinese torreya trees and each fruiting tree has an average profit of CNY 1,000, so the Chinese torreya is called a veritable "money tree" for farmers.
Over the past ten years, Xinhe villagers have been encouraged to plant Chinese torreya trees with more than 267 hectares of land planted. Relying on unique location advantages as well as mountain and water resources, Xinhe Township will see Chinese torreya nuts as well as other projects and industries for common prosperity, so as to safeguard the growth drivers for villagers.
