[Me and My Chinese Story Season II (Episode Four)] Ahimsa: Spanish "Elephant Chaser"

Ahimsa Campos-Arceiz, from Spain, is the Principal Investigator of Megafauna Ecology and Conservation Group of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences.   

In 2021, a herd of Asian elephants in China's Yunnan Province caught the world's attention with their migration journey to the north and back. Ahimsa believes that, in terms of protecting wild elephants, while other Asian countries focus more on protecting the crops, China pays more attention to people's safety. "I think here this is more personal". Meanwhile, China is developing sophisticated wild elephant monitoring and warning systems, which can be used for reference by other countries.

"China is very keen on protecting elephants and is doing it well. I hope our work contributes to improving this human-elephant coexistence," Ahimsa said.
