Recently, in Honggu District of Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, the State Grid Lanzhou Power Supply Company used the province's first "heavy-lift drone + ground wire repair robot" working method to complete a live-line repair operation on a 220 kV transmission line with broken strands.
The ground wire repair robot performs aerial work
A heavy-lift drone delivers the ground wire repair robot to a high altitude
According to reports, the heavy-lift drone successfully delivered the repair robot to a working height of 30 meters. Using its integrated surveillance module, the robot precisely navigated to the damaged strand location. Through its intelligent recognition system, it autonomously identified and locked onto the target area and automatically completed the ground wire splicing procedure. This technology has addressed the challenges in live-line maintenance of ground wires in mountainous areas. It accomplishes in one hour what traditionally requires six hours of manual work by maintenance crews. It eliminates the need for personnel to work at heights, enhances safety, and adapts to high-altitude operations, providing a new solution for the digital transformation of transmission line maintenance.
