Opening of the 2025 Liupanshui Summer Retreat Season — China’s Cool Capital

On May 5, Liupanshui City in Guizhou Province held the opening ceremony of the 2025 Summer Retreat Season, officially launching the city’s exclusive celebration of summer coolness.

This year’s Summer Retreat Season will center on the theme of “Indulging in Coolness,” adopting a “1+3+N” model. The framework begins with one opening ceremony and focuses on three key sectors: cool sports events, cultural activities, and tourism stays, and is complemented by a variety of experiential activities. By combining market-driven operations with public participation, the city aims to build an integrated experience system encompassing event spectating, cultural immersion, and leisure stays.

Renowned for its pleasant summer average temperature of 19°C, fresh air, and moderate ultraviolet radiation, Liupanshui was awarded the title “China’s Cool Capital” by the Chinese Meteorological Society in 2005. Over the past 20 years, the city has leveraged its cool climate to transform from the “Jiangnan Coal Capital” into a premier summer retreat destination. By integrating cultural and tourism resources, developing innovative business models, and building a comprehensive industry chain covering dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment, Liupanshui has created a unique destination that blends traditional charm with modern vibrancy.
