Shi Zhibin's team performing surgery for a patient

The team from the Orthopedic Center – Sports Medicine Department, led by Shi Zhibin and Ni Jianlong, has developed an innovative surgical technique for the diagnosis and treatment of medial meniscal posterior root tears. Their research, titled "Arthroscopic Knotless Anchor Through High Posterolateral Portal for Treating Medial Meniscal Posterior Root Tears", was published in Arthroscopy Techniques, an open-access surgical technology journal under the authoritative Arthroscopy journal in the field of sports medicine. This technique introduces, for the first time, the application of the high posterolateral portal (HPLP) in treating medial meniscal posterior root tears and highlights its advantages. The procedure is thoroughly demonstrated through a combination of text, images, and surgical videos, detailing the arthroscopic knotless anchor technique performed through the high posterolateral portal for repairing medial meniscal tears.

Wang Dong's team performing surgery for a patient

The team from the Orthopedic Center – Spine and Bone Tumor Department at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, led by Wang Dong, Li Fengtao, and Wang Fang, in collaboration with Song En from the Kunming Medical University, has made a breakthrough in the innovative treatment of lumbar disc herniation. For the first time, the team combined Arthroscopic-assisted Uniportal Spinal Surgery (AUSS/UNSES technique) with a bone-anchoring annular suture technique. This approach allows for precise nucleus pulposus removal through a single-port entry and utilizes bone-anchored sutures to repair annular defects, significantly reducing the risk of postoperative recurrence. This innovation offers a minimally invasive and long-lasting solution for treating lumbar disc herniation. Their research paper, titled "Bone Anchoring Annular Suture Technique for Repairing Annular Defects at Vertebral Body Edge Following Lumbar Discectomy", was published in the international journal Scientific Reports. Also, in collaboration with Song En, the team co-authored "Essentials of Arthroscopic-assisted Uni-portal Spinal Surgery-Annular Repair Technique", the world's first comprehensive monograph systematically detailing the AUSS technique, published in both Chinese and English.

The Orthopedic Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University is dedicated to establishing a world-class orthopedic diagnosis and treatment center. Through in-depth exchanges with the global orthopedic community, the center demonstrates the growing academic strength of China's orthopedic discipline and will continue to contribute the university's expertise and innovation to the advancement of orthopedic medicine.
