Zhengzhou, Henan: Application of Intelligent Cable Conveyance System Accelerates Power Grid Development

Recently, with the launch of cable laying operations in the underground power tunnel, the 220 kV Hengshan Substation has entered the countdown to its commissioning. The State Grid Zhengzhou Power Supply Company adopted the intelligent high-voltage cable laying system in this construction, which has significantly improved the quality and efficiency of cable installation.

The 220 kV Hengshan Substation is located in the core area of the North Longhu region in Zhengzhou. After it is put into operation, it will serve as an important power source for the Dongfeng Road Traction Substation of Metro Line 8. Additionally, it will also provide a reliable power supply for the surrounding high-end residential areas and the economic center of the Financial Island.

All the lines of this project are connected through the cable tunnel. The entire line route is 6,433 meters long, and it is planned to lay 42,636 meters of cables, which means a relatively large amount of work. If conventional cable laying methods were adopted, personnel would have to be on duty for each piece of equipment during the construction process. This not only fails to ensure the synchronism of cable laying but also makes it impossible to monitor construction quality. The intelligent high-voltage cable laying system adopted this time can control the construction process from the source, ensuring the quality, safety, and progress of cable laying, and greatly improving the efficiency of cable installation.

“This system boosts efficiency by 20% over conventional methods while drastically cutting labor demands,” said Pan Dong, a relevant person in charge of the Construction Division of the State Grid Zhengzhou Power Supply Company.

Looking ahead, the State Grid Zhengzhou Power Supply Company will expand the deployment of intelligent high-voltage cable laying systems in urban grid development and refine power infrastructure planning to propel Zhengzhou’s vision for a tech-driven smart city.
