State Grid Ningxia Electric Power's Virtual Power Plant Construction Empowers Energy Transition in Ningxia

Recently, State Grid Ningxia Electric Power has promoted the revised Regulations for the Operation and Management of Virtual Power Plants in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region to a number of local virtual power plants. At the same time, it has provided in-depth interpretations of the construction, operation, and market participation of virtual power plants in accordance with the new policies.

Since 2022, State Grid Ningxia Electric Power has actively promoted the role of virtual power plants in resource aggregation to enhance regulation and optimization. Relying on the new-type electric load management system, it has built a virtual power plant management platform that integrates management and services, providing diversified services such as access management, operation monitoring, and market digitalization for social virtual power plants. This has enabled unified access, intensive management, and intelligent dispatching of virtual power plants across the region.

As of now, the Ningxia Virtual Power Plant Management Platform has connected 12 virtual power plants in total, aggregating 20 types of resources including aluminum smelting, the chemical industry, and charging piles, with an installed capacity of about 3.96 million kilowatts. It has served virtual power plants participating in peak-shaving auxiliary services 163 times, and the cumulative absorption of renewable energy has reached 73.52 million kilowatt-hours. The Virtual Power Plant Operation and Management Platform project won the third prize in the 2nd National Energy Electronics Industry Innovation Competition held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and was selected into the State Grid Corporation of China’s “Source-Grid-Load-Storage Interaction” Top 100 Demonstration and Cultivation Project.(By Yu Ting)
