To fully prepare for the power grid's resistance against rain, snow, and freezing disasters this winter and next spring, and to ensure the safe and stable supply of electricity, on November 14th, State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company successfully conducted a live-action DC ice-melting drill on the ground wire of ±800 kV Jintang Line in Tianhuangping Town, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. This drill adds solid assurance for the safe operation of UHV lines during the winter peak load period.

Staff use infrared thermometers to monitor line temperatures

As the temperature gradually drops, the power load for winter heating and industrial use continues to rise. As the “main artery” of power supply, UHV lines are under increasing operational pressure. At the same time, UHV lines in northern Zhejiang are usually located in mountainous areas. Due to high air humidity, high altitude, and strong winds, towers and transmission lines are prone to icing. Once the ice coating becomes too thick, it may lead to safety accidents such as tower collapse and line breakage. To improve the power grid’s emergency response capacity under extreme weather conditions, State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company cooperated in conducting this DC ice-melting drill.

This drill simulated a real scenario where line icing is caused by cold-wave conditions. At the drill site, the company’s drill personnel strictly followed the planned procedure, accurately completed the switching operation, connected the ice-melting line to the Jintang Line ground wire, and started the DC ice-melting system. The drill personnel inspected the operation status of the equipment in real time and measured the temperatures of the ice-melting equipment, conductors, cable joints, etc., to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the equipment.

To ensure the effectiveness of the drill, State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company set up a special leading group in advance, with working groups including plan formulation, on-site command, safety assurance, and logistics services. Through division of labor, cooperation, and efficient coordination, the company organized multiple simulation exercises according to the formulated ice-melting plan, ensuring that each participant proficiently mastered the operation process and emergency plan.
