Xuchang, Henan: Reliable Power Supply Boosts Specialty Agriculture

Recently, staff from the Fanhu Power Supply Substation of State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company visited the strawberry cultivation base in Fanxi Community, Xiangcheng County, Xuchang City, Henan Province. They conducted electrical safety inspections for over 50 strawberry greenhouses, ensuring a reliable power supply for the daily harvesting and sale of nearly 3,000 kilograms of fresh strawberries.

With Fanxi Community at its core, Fanhu Town in Xiangcheng County cultivates a variety of greenhouse crops, including strawberries, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The strawberry cultivation area alone exceeds 100 mu (about 16.5 acres). Since the onset of winter, equipment for heating, supplemental lighting, and irrigation in the greenhouses has operated at high frequency, leading to increased power demand. The stability of the power supply directly affects crop yields.

To proactively address these needs, the State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company organized 12 grid inspectors to provide targeted services. They conducted comprehensive inspections of the greenhouses in Fanhu Town, focusing on testing line insulation, leakage protection devices, and equipment grounding. Since winter began, they have addressed over 30 issues, including non-standard wiring and aging switches. The company also increased the frequency of specialized inspections on the 10-kilovolt and low-voltage lines around the greenhouses, assigned dedicated personnel to inspect line corridors regularly, cleared tree obstructions promptly, and reinforced poles. This helps prevent line damage from snow and ice accumulation, ensuring unimpeded power transmission. A dedicated service center was set up, implementing a service standard that guarantees a response within 15 minutes and repair within 2 hours for any fault. Staff also distributed the Greenhouse Electrical Safety Manual door to door, guiding farmers in the proper installation of moisture-resistant cables and the use of off-peak electricity.

Currently, the greenhouse economy in Fanhu Town has expanded from strawberry cultivation to a diverse range of crops including peppers and mushrooms, providing employment opportunities for more than 80 local households. High-quality power supply has become a strong guarantee for rural revitalization.
