On March 25, during the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026, a sub-forum titled "Transport-Energy Integration for a Sustainable Future," hosted by China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CEEC), was successfully held in Boao. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the integration of transport and energy, exploring how to build a new transport-energy system that is green, intelligent, cost-effective, and secure, in order to better drive sustainable economic and social development.
Speakers at the forum included Ni Zhen, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of CEEC; Gao Xiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Dalian University of Technology; Tang Xiuguo, Chairman of SANY Group; Mohammad A. Abunayyan, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power; and Luo Bixiong, Chief Scientist of CEEC.
Ni Zhen noted that transport–energy integration is driven by two key carbon-reduction pathways: electrification of sustainable transport and substitution with sustainable fuels such as green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and oil-based alternatives. He said CEEC has made transport–energy integration a strategic direction, carried out exploration and practice, and achieved a series of forward-looking technological innovations and demonstration projects. He also highlighted four guiding principles: maintaining strategic focus, strengthening innovation-driven development, emphasizing scenario-based demonstration, and deepening cross-sector integration and collaboration.
Gao Xiang stated that energy is the foundation of development, and green fuels provide a decarbonization pathway for hard-to-electrify sectors such as shipping and aviation. He emphasized the need to rely on technological innovation to break through key bottlenecks.
Tang Xiuguo noted that electric heavy-duty trucks are an important carrier of transport–energy integration. With continued technological progress, they are expected to extend from short-haul applications to medium- and long-distance logistics, while also driving new technologies and business models.
Mohammad Abunayyan pointed out that green energy is developing rapidly, and China's technological progress in renewable energy provides global solutions. ACWA Power will further deepen cooperation with CEEC to promote the green energy transition.
Luo Bixiong emphasized that advancing transport–energy integration requires adapting measures to local conditions, accelerating innovation in green fuel technologies, building digital platforms to connect the entire value chain, and improving standards and rules to support orderly technological development.
On the same day, CEEC also hosted a "Release Moment" event in Boao under the theme "Quality Development through Innovation." The event showcased a wide range of CEEC's achievements in areas including large-scale renewable energy bases, next-generation coal power, new energy storage, ultra-high voltage transmission, smart microgrids, high-altitude wind energy, controllable nuclear fusion, green hydrogen-based fuels, computing–power synergy, and international energy cooperation.
