As gentle breezes warm the air in May, the charm of cultural heritage fills the atmosphere. On May 18, 2026, China’s main venue event for International Museum Day will take place in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. Centered on the theme Museums: Bridges Connecting the World, the event is hosted by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and co-organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Cultural Heritage Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hohhot Municipal People’s Government, the Chinese Museums Association, and China Cultural Relics News Co., Ltd. It will showcase the latest achievements of China’s museum development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, further strengthening the connection between museums and the public.

To mark the occasion, International Online has specially launched a poster series themed National Treasures, Timeless Elegance of Antiquities. The series selects six iconic treasures from the Inner Mongolia Museum. Spanning the Warring States, Western Han, Northern Wei, Liao and Yuan dynasties, the collection includes gold artifacts, bronze wares, porcelain and fossils. Each relic bears witness to long-buried history and embodies the integration and mutual development of diverse ethnic groups, silently telling stories that span thousands of years.

A museum is far more than a mere exhibition space for cultural relics. It acts as a vital bond linking history with the present, ethnic cultures with the wider world, and the public with civilization. It connects us to the fertile land we inhabit and the historical memories accumulated over thousands of years, while also reaching out to the global community and every individual who cherishes and admires civilization. As traces of history drift through light and shadow, this millennium-spanning cultural rendezvous is about to unfold in Hohhot. Let us embrace this journey and witness how museums, as bridges connecting the world, bring history and the future together.
