The 110 kV Sushu Substation in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, was recently commissioned, providing new power support for the industrial development of Xinqiao Town in Jiangyin City.
Xinqiao Town, Jiangyin City, Wuxi, is a hub for township-level enterprises, with continuously growing electricity demand. The capacity of the two existing 110 kV substations in the area has approached saturation. At the same time, some local gas-fired turbine units are scheduled for shutdown, requiring the transfer of approximately 40–50 MW of industrial load to the public grid. In addition, the town is accelerating the development of precision manufacturing, with several key projects set to go into operation soon, which are expected to add another 50–60 MW of electricity demand. To break through the power supply bottleneck, State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company built the new 110 kV Sushu Substation, equipped with two 50 MVA main transformers, to meet the long-term needs of industrial expansion and urban development.
All information from equipment with remote transmission capabilities at the substation has been fully integrated into the control system. The total number of signaling points across the entire station exceeds 4,000—more than 3,000 additional points compared to conventional substations—significantly enhancing operational monitoring and management capabilities.
The commissioning of the 110 kV Sushu Substation not only relieves regional power supply pressure but also marks a new step forward in the intelligent and digital transformation of the Wuxi power grid.
