Nighttime Patrols and Thermal Inspections Safeguard Power Supply During Peak Summer Demand in Nanyang, Henan

Amid a prolonged heatwave in Nanyang, Henan Province, the power load on the local grid has continued to rise. With grid equipment operating under heavy loads, the risk of overheating in power lines and distribution transformers has risen sharply, posing significant challenges to safe and stable grid operation. To strengthen safeguards for summer power supply and ensure a reliable power supply for residents and businesses, State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company launched special nighttime patrols on the evening of July 8. Operations and maintenance personnel were deployed to conduct infrared temperature checks along key distribution lines to accurately identify hidden equipment hazards.

The nighttime inspections targeted heavily loaded 10-kV lines and key distribution transformer service areas. During the evening peak-load period, maintenance technicians used handheld infrared thermometers to carry out comprehensive temperature checks. They focused on heat-prone and fault-vulnerable components, including terminal posts and clamps and lightning arresters, recording temperature readings and checking the operating status of each component.

During the inspections, staff meticulously identified hidden safety hazards, such as equipment overheating, aging power lines, and loose connections. All identified issues were recorded individually and categorized, and personnel were immediately assigned to rectify each defect and verify its resolution, thereby helping prevent equipment failures, trips, and power outages during periods of high temperatures and heavy loads.

To date, the special nighttime inspections have eliminated 102 potential equipment hazards, effectively improving the operational stability of distribution network equipment during periods of high temperatures. Going forward, State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company will continue to monitor grid operations during periods of high temperatures, regularly conduct special nighttime patrols and temperature checks, and increase inspection frequency in key areas and for key equipment. Through robust operation and maintenance measures, the company will help ensure that residents stay cool throughout the summer and that businesses operate without disruption.
