On August 7, Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th typhoon of this year, was approaching the coastal areas of East China. Meteorological authorities forecast that the typhoon would make landfall along the northern coast of Zhejiang and Fujian between the afternoon of the 9th and the early morning of the 10th, with winds reaching Forces 12 to 14 upon landfall. State Grid Wenzhou Power Supply Company activated its wartime flood and typhoon response mechanism to safeguard power supply across Dongtou's island.
To minimize the typhoon’s impact on the power grid, the company conducted a comprehensive inspection of the power grid for potential hazards across Dongtou. Taking into account the island’s special environment featuring high levels of salt spray, strong winds and heavy rainfall, it focused on inspecting and addressing potential hazards on coastal power lines and at transformer stations in fishing village, clearing vegetation encroaching on power lines, reinforcing equipment and sealing potential points of water ingress in power distribution rooms. Special inspections were also conducted at key facilities serving essential public needs, including hospitals and flood and typhoon control command centers, with guidance provided to help them implement internal typhoon defense measures and safeguard power supply for essential services.
All company personnel have been placed on emergency duty. Multiple repair teams and emergency vehicles have been deployed, with ample emergency repair supplies including cables, transformers and waterproof materials stockpiled. Repair forces have been pre-positioned in separate zones based on the island’s geographical layout to shorten the emergency response time for fault handling.
Moving forward, the company will keep a close eye on the typhoon’s track, step up inspections, emergency duty and response efforts. It will leverage supervision mechanisms to fully implement typhoon prevention responsibilities, strive to withstand the typhoon’s impact, and deliver reliable power to protect residents of Dongtou and support local economic and social development.
