The 7th China (Gansu) Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Expo Opens in Longxi

On September 4, the 7th China (Gansu) Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Expo (the “TCM Expo”) opened at the “Silk Road” China Gansu Traditional Chinese Medicine Expo Park in Longxi County, Dingxi City. Themed “Inheriting Tradition and Driving Innovation: Empowering TCM with Digital Intelligence to Advance Healthy China”, the three-day event brought together experts, scholars, foreign guests, and pharmaceutical business representatives from China and abroad in the country’s renowned “Medicine Capital” to promote cooperation and development across the TCM industry.

Co-hosted by the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the National Innovation Alliance for Standardization and Quality Assessment of Chinese Medicinal Materials, and Gansu Yaodu Expo Co., Ltd., this year's expo features 14 major events, including specialized forums, an announcement on volume-based procurement for Chinese herbal decoction pieces, and a “fast-track” initiative for commercializing scientific and technological achievements in TCM. The expo comprises three themed exhibition halls. Hall 1 traces the history and culture of TCM and showcases achievements in Gansu's herbal medicine industry; Hall 2 brings together 15 of China’s top 100 pharmaceutical enterprises; and Hall 3 features regional exhibitions, AI-powered TCM experiences, free consultations with renowned TCM practitioners, medicinal cuisine tastings, livestream sales, and displays of new machinery and equipment for Chinese medicinal herbs. Numerically controlled slicing machines and plant-protection drones are among the innovations making their debut.

Renowned as a region with a thousand-year history of Chinese herbal medicine, Dingxi generated an output value of CNY 55.3 billion across its entire TCM industry chain in 2025, with particular strengths in producing high-quality medicinal herbs native to the region, such as Chinese angelica (danggui), astragalus (huangqi), and codonopsis (dangshen). The expo also features visits to eight sites covering the entire industry chain, alongside concurrent activities such as medicinal cuisine tastings, intangible cultural heritage performances, and wellness experiences.

Dingxi has long been celebrated as a region with a thousand-year history of Chinese herbal medicine and a “Natural Medicine Warehouse”. This year’s TCM Expo is not only a major industry gathering but also an important platform showcasing the rich heritage of traditional Chinese medicine to the world. Driven by digital and intelligent technologies and open collaboration, Gansu’s traditional Chinese medicine industry is poised to expand its international presence with greater confidence.
