Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, announced on September 22 that, following successful deployments in road and office lighting, it has extended the use of its generative AI agent (GenAI Agent) and Interact connected lighting system to landmark lighting. Through Interact Landmark Flex, the system enables multimodal lighting interaction and can reduce content planning costs and lead times by approximately 80%. It made its debut at the “VOIDSPACE” public art installation during the 2026 Shanghai International Light Festival.

“Artificial intelligence is fundamentally redefining the role of light—moving it beyond functional illumination to become an interactive, emotionally resonant medium,” said Olivia Qiu, Chief Innovation Officer of Signify. “Innovation is deeply rooted in Signify’s DNA. This extension of our AI agent’s multimodal light interaction capabilities marks another milestone in our AI roadmap. It not only reduces the complexity of traditional landmark lighting productions but also enables artists, property managers and audiences to co-create lighting experiences in real time, unlocking the extraordinary potential of light in cultural, entertainment and public spaces.”

Multimodal Light Interaction Generates Custom Light Recipes at the Touch of a Button

The core upgrade is the multimodal light interaction capability powered by the generative AI agent. Drawing on years of lighting experience from landmark projects around the world, the system uses an agent framework with a cross-disciplinary knowledge base, multiple capabilities and interactive functions. It supports multimodal input, including natural language. Rather than manually adjusting parameters such as colour and brightness through conventional interfaces or coordinating performance equipment across multiple control systems, users can simply describe the desired light colour, atmosphere or mood of a scene. The AI agent interprets their intent and converts it into a corresponding “light recipe,” directing lighting and related performance equipment to produce the desired effect in real time. The technology significantly lowers the barrier to programming lighting for specific scenes and reduces the cost and time required for content planning, making personalised, immersive lighting experiences more accessible.

The technology has been applied in an Interact Landmark Flex landmark lighting setting. During the 2026 Shanghai International Light Festival, AI-enabled Interact Landmark Flex was integrated into the “VOIDSPACE” public art installation. Visitors can share their moods and feelings through channels such as a mini program. The system then processes their input on site in real time and produces dynamic lighting effects that reflect their emotions, turning lighting from a preset display into an interactive form of artistic expression.

With the addition of multimodal light interaction capabilities, Signify’s AI-powered Interact connected lighting system now covers core applications including road, office and landmark lighting. As digital technology becomes more closely integrated with cultural experiences and the operation of public spaces, smart lighting is evolving from basic infrastructure into a means of enhancing experiences and improving efficiency. Signify will continue to pursue AI innovation, expand the applications of lighting and provide more efficient and imaginative smart lighting solutions for a range of settings.
