State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company’s Biodiversity Conservation Practice Featured at CBD COP17

Recently, the Chinese and English editions of the report Beauty of Diversity: Nature-Positive Solutions from Chinese Enterprises were officially released at the "Business Engagement in Biodiversity Day" event held at the China Pavilion during the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Yerevan, Armenia. The case From "Conflict" to "Coexistence": Making Power Lines Safer for Birds, contributed by State Grid Baiyin Power Supply Company of State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company, was selected for inclusion in the report. Its inclusion in the report brought the company's innovative achievements to the international stage, demonstrating how a power grid company, grounded in local realities, can promote the harmonious coexistence of power development and biodiversity conservation. The case also provides a replicable example of implementing the global ecological governance framework at the primary level.

Event Highlights

Guided by the Department of Nature and Ecology Conservation of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and organized by the Ministry’s Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center and the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, the report features 50 outstanding corporate practice cases from across China. As the only case from State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company selected for the report, the "bird-power line coexistence" initiative of State Grid Baiyin Power Supply Company represents a grassroots example of State Grid's broader efforts to advance nature-friendly production and operations across five key areas of ecological practice. It also demonstrates the commitment of a central state-owned enterprise based in Gansu to actively engage in global biodiversity governance.
