Songpan County, formerly known as Songzhou, is located in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. It is like a green jewel embedded between the southeastern foothills of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the western Sichuan plain, and is home to multiple ethnic groups such as Tibetan, Qiang, Hui, and Han.

The Huanglong Scenic Area in Songpan County is known as the "Jade Pool on earth". It is the most well-preserved, colorful, and grandest calcified colorful pool group among similar scenic areas known, with over 3,400 colorful pools scattered in the valley, along with lakes, waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, ancient temples, etc., creating a unique and stunning world-class landscape.

As the source of the Minjiang and Fujiang rivers and an important ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Yellow River, Songpan County is an important part of the Giant Panda National Park and the demonstration area for ecological conservation in northwest Sichuan. The Minjiang River runs through the city and flows into the Chengdu Plain, creating the "Land of Abundance" with thousands of miles of fertile land.

In addition, Songpan County was one of the first counties in the Sichuan province to achieve the national standard for water-saving social construction in the Yellow River Basin, and was successfully selected as the fifth batch of "National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zones" and "Key Counties for Forest, Grassland and Wetland Ecological Barriers in Sichuan Province". It was also selected as one of the "most beautiful counties in China".
