Under the theme of "Harmonious Coexistence in the Ocean Decade," the forum was held online and offline. It included the opening ceremony and the main forum as well as nine sub-forums. Simultaneously, there was the International Symposium on Achievements and Prospects of the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in Waters beyond National Jurisdiction, the East Asia Marine Expo, and two economic and trade matchmaking activities among businesses.
The opening ceremony witnessed the official launch of the Qingdao Initiative for the "Ocean Decade." The International Symposium on Blue Carbon launched the Qingdao Initiative for Blue Carbon, and the Symposium on Global Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance released the Qingdao Initiative for East Asian Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance. A series of published results included the Global Near-Real-Time Carbon Emissions Report (2022-2023). Collection and selection activities of "Marine Technology Commercialization Cases" will target key universities, research institutions, and sci-tech innovation enterprises. In addition, the event witnessed the establishment of the Shandong Marine Technology Transfer and Commercialization Center (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Community), and the "Ocean Decade" Innovation Cooperation Center for International Marine Scenes.
This year's forum has achieved the expected goals, and improvements have been made in four aspects, namely the level of the forum, the content of activities, the scale of the exhibition, and the results of cooperation. According to the arrangements of the Qingdao Forum Executive Committee, the 2024 East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum is preliminarily scheduled for late April 2024.
