Ultra High Voltage Company of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd. Inspects Shaanxi's First UHV DC Station

Recently, Ultra High Voltage Company of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the "Company") held an opening ceremony for the bipolar DC system maintenance with a planned outage at the northern Shaanxi converter station. Since the Shaanxi-Wuhan DC project was put into operation on April 16, 2022, the northern Shaanxi converter station has delivered more than 35 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the Hubei power grid. The Company will fully leverage this annual inspection to comprehensively identify and eliminate equipment hazards, and further consolidate the safety lifeline for power transmission from Shaanxi to Hubei, making every effort to ensure a secure and reliable power supply for people during the winter months.

The Shaanxi-Wuhan DC project, a major energy channel for China's west-to-east and north-to-south transmission programs, realizes direct connection between the energy base in northern Shaanxi and the load center in central China, and converts the rich coal resources and new energy in northern Shaanxi on site before sending clean electricity to Hubei. The transmission power of this project accounts for about 70 percent of the maximum load in Wuhan, which can replace 18 million tons of coal and reduce 29.6 million tons of carbon dioxide every year. It is of great significance in terms of promoting the transformation and upgrading of the energy structure and helping win the battle for blue skies.

The completion of this annual inspection will further enhance the operation safety of the Shaanxi-Central China DC system and the power supply reliability of Shaanxi power grid, so as to provide in the best condition a solid guarantee for the safe, reliable and green electricity consumption in Central China and Shaanxi this winter.
