Tonglu County, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Accelerates Its Development as the "County of Express Delivery"

As one of the major centers of e-commerce in China, Hangzhou City of Zhejiang Province has been enjoying the reputation of a new international city in the Internet era and Tonglu County is known as the backyard of Hangzhou. In recent years, the express delivery industry, which is closely linked with the rapid growth of e-commerce, has been gathering in Tonglu and reshaping it into a modern industrial town.

Regarded as the town of express delivery in China, Tonglu County has formed a strong force for China’s express industry. Among the 18 private express companies above the designated scale, four of them are based in Tonglu.

According to the statistics of the State Post Bureau, in 2021, the so-called Tong-Da express enterprises (abbreviation of Shentong, Yuantong, Zhongtong and Yunda, all established in Tonglu) have completed 68.323 billion times of express delivery, accounting for 63% of China's total. While express delivery becoming a "golden name card" of Tonglu, the logistics industry has also become an important growth point of Tonglu. Since 2020, Tonglu has been selected as a pilot town of comprehensive reform and innovation as the logistics demonstration county in Zhejiang province; 100 new projects related to express delivery have been signed and implemented with an introduced agreement investment amounting to CNY 31.98 billion, covering fields such as headquarters economy, renewable energy vehicles, automatic sorting equipment, intelligent robots, express packaging, etc.; a centralized procurement and trading center for express equipment and materials has been established, which demonstrates a promising momentum for the express delivery industry.

As of 2021, Tonglu County has attracted and cultivated 311 enterprises related to express industry, involving fields including intelligent sorting equipment, intelligent shelves, AGV robots and others. In 2021, the industries related to express delivery in Tonglu County achieved a revenue of CNY 32.064 billion with paid tax of CNY 1.277 billion. At the end of 2021, Tonglu Express Technology Town was included into the 7th list for the development of featured towns in Zhejiang Province.

In the future, Tonglu County will take further steps to improve the common delivery system in counties and the county-level express supervision system, so that the express services can be a greater support for the quality development of the economy in Chinese counties and the local people in the counties can enjoy better life; with those efforts, Tonglu will become a better place in the process of building the "County of Express Delivery".
