The Grand Canal in China is the oldest artificial canal in the world, a vital food delivery channel, and an economic lifeline for China in ancient times. In the evolution of Beijing municipality, the Grand Canal (Beijing Section) served as a waterway and played an important role in urban construction and water system planning in Beijing. In June 2014, the Grand Canal was declared in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In recent years, Beijing has promoted the preservation, inheritance, and utilization of the culture of the Grand Canal at high quality. It tries to boost economic development and cultural innovation in regions along the Grand Canal.
In the chapter "Dynamic Culture of the Grand Canal", Goran Durdevic, a host from Croatia in the TV series introduced the cultural relics, economic facilities, and old days of the Grand Canal to the audience through his journey, presenting the changes of the century-old Grand Canal and its important role in the city's historical development. "The Grand Canal is a golden waterway which connected the brilliant Chinese cultural elements," said Goran Durdevic in the video.
