Recently, the innovative practices of State Grid Suizhou Power Supply Company were featured at the 30th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30). As a representative Chinese enterprise solution for addressing climate change, the project titled “Pursuing Green Paths, Transforming Toward Innovation — Implementation of the World’s First County-Level New Power System Demonstration Zone” presented a model for supporting green and low-carbon transformation to the international community.

Focusing on issues faced by high-proportion renewable energy grids—such as low inertia, weak stability, and consumption challenges—State Grid Suizhou Power Supply Company leveraged the abundant wind and solar resources in the Guangshui region to establish the world’s first 100-MW-class new power system driven entirely by renewable energy.

The project achieved breakthroughs in frontier technologies including grid-forming capabilities for renewable energy and storage systems, as well as coordinated control across generation, grid, load, and storage. It successfully enabled long-term independent operation of a grid powered 100% by renewable energy, creating the world’s largest real-world test base for new energy power systems. This provides a technical benchmark for building new-type power systems and offers a replicable “Chinese solution” for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets at the county level.

At this year’s conference, fourteen solutions from Chinese enterprises—including State Grid Suizhou Power Supply Company—were presented, covering five key areas such as developing zero-carbon villages, advancing green industrial growth, and building new-type power systems.

These practices not only highlight the strengths of Chinese power grid enterprises in technology integration and system optimization, but also reflect the vital role and contribution of Chinese companies in driving a whole-of-society low-carbon transition.
