State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company Carries Out Dual-Power-Supply Upgrades in Older High-Rise Residential Communities

In Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, a project to upgrade power supply systems in older high-rise residential buildings has recently reached a new milestone. With dual-power-supply upgrades completed in residential communities such as Century Park and Chengyi Garden, the local power authority has taken another step forward in its project aimed at improving residents’ well-being, directly benefiting 764 households.

Built in 1992, Chengyi Garden is a typical older high-rise residential community. Due to limitations in early urban planning, the community had long relied on a single-circuit power supply. During line maintenance or in the event of a fault, the entire building would be at risk of a power outage, posing considerable challenges to residents’ daily lives and property management.

To address this issue, State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company adopted a targeted “one-community, one-strategy” approach. Given the practical difficulties in older residential communities, such as complex utility networks, limited construction space and varying resident needs, the technical team conducted multiple on-site surveys and developed customized construction plans based on factors including building age, electrical load and utility network layouts. To minimize disruption to residents, the work was scheduled outside peak electricity consumption periods, with construction carried out in stages and temporary power supply measures put in place. Following the upgrade, the main and backup supply lines now feature an automatic switching mechanism. If the main line is interrupted due to a fault, the backup power supply can take over quickly and seamlessly, significantly improving power supply reliability.

As a key component of the city’s urban renewal efforts, State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company is continuing to upgrade power grids in older residential communities. At the same time, it has made dual-power-supply configurations a mandatory requirement in the power supply approval process for new high-rise residential buildings, establishing an end-to-end electrical safety framework that combines “upgrading older communities and applying strict standards to new developments.”
