In recent years, Chengdu has made air quality improvement as a key project for ecological benefits, which has greatly improved the happiness of Chengdu citizens. The Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment continues to improve air quality by strengthening top-level design, addressing both symptoms and root causes, and strengthening smart governance.
Recently, the air quality report of Chengdu from January to June 2022 was released. The report shows that in the first half of 2022, the number of days with good air quality in Chengdu was 145, an increase of 1 day year-on-year, with an excellent and good rate of 80.1 percent; the PM2.5 concentration was 42 micrograms per cubic meter, a year-on-year decrease of 10.6 percent. The comprehensive air quality index and improvement rate ranked 95th and 41st among 168 key cities in China, up 19 and 47 places respectively year-on-year.
In recent years, Chengdu has continued to build a green ecological background and shaped the beautiful form of a park city. A total of 5,188 kilometers of greenways at all levels have been built, and a new park area of 65,000 mu has been added. The construction of Giant Panda National Park and Longquanshan Urban Forest Park has been accelerated. Ecological Park and Jinjiang Park are connected across the board. Up to now, Chengdu's regional, urban and community greenway systems have been connected into a network, forming an ecological "green vein" that runs through the city. In the future, Chengdu's greenways at all levels will exceed 10,000 kilometers within five years, and are expected to connect green and water systems, forests, lakes and rivers, and rural countryside to form a complete ecological network and create a "green necklace" for the city.
