Kaifeng, Henan: Campus Electrical Safety Checks Help Ensure a Safe Start to the New Semester

As the new semester approaches, staff from State Grid Kaifeng Power Supply Company recently visited primary and secondary schools to conduct targeted campus electrical safety inspections. The inspections were designed to identify and eliminate potential risks in electrical equipment on school premises and ensure safe and reliable electricity use for teachers and students.

The inspections focused on safety risks associated with equipment that had remained idle throughout the summer vacation, particularly moisture-affected wiring and damaged insulation resulting from prolonged disuse and recent high humidity. Staff inspected key areas, including power distribution rooms, classroom buildings, school canteens, and laboratories. Using infrared thermometers, clamp meters, and other professional tools, they conducted comprehensive safety checks on distribution boxes, switches and sockets, residual-current devices, lighting equipment, and other electrical facilities.

Any hazards identified during the inspections, such as aging wiring and loose connections, were logged individually. Staff issued corrective-action notices to the schools on site and helped them develop plans to ensure that each hazard was fully addressed. Alongside the inspections, staff explained essential electrical safety practices and practical first-aid techniques for electric shock to school facilities management personnel. They also advised the schools on improving their internal electricity-use management systems and strengthening their capacity to manage campus electrical safety independently.

State Grid Kaifeng Power Supply Company will continue to monitor the implementation of corrective measures at each school and establish a routine campus electrical safety inspection program. After schools reopen, the company will also launch a “Safe Electricity Use on Campus” awareness campaign to teach students basic electrical safety and help ensure a smooth start to the new semester.
