In order to deal with the problem of huge waste from fast fashion, western countries take advantage of the second-hand clothes trade to export a large number of used clothes to Kenya. According to Le Figaro newspaper, around 900 million used clothes were shipped to Kenya in 2021, one third of which contain plastic, and the quality is so poor that they "are immediately thrown away or burned ", causing environmental pollution and creating health risks.
