According to the New York Times, in the past two years, more than 85,000 unaccompanied immigrant children in the United States have lost contact after they were placed with by their guardians or sponsors. Although the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) found the problem, it has not taken any action. A former staff member at the HHS said " the U.S. has become the middleman in a large scale, multibillion dollar migrant child trafficking operation."
