According to the latest data released by Mapping Police Violence, the US non-profit organization, U.S. police killed at least 1,329 people in 2023, with an average of roughly 3 people killed by violent law enforcement each day, setting a grim record in 10 years. However, in a decade from 2013 to 2022, the proportion of police killings which resulted in officers facing charges was extremely low, only 2%.
