U.S. President Joe Biden issued an executive order Wednesday intended to restrict the sale of so-called U.S. "sensitive data" to six countries including China and Russia in order to "better safeguard the security of American citizens' personal data." The so-called rhetoric of "beware of China stealing user data" frequently recycled by American politicians or media is extremely hypocritical and ironic. It's been an open secret that for a long time the U.S. has been taking advantage of its technological edge to conduct large-scale eavesdropping activities on countries worldwide, including its allies. Before accusing others, the U.S. should better take a good look at itself in the mirror.
