The 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits recently concluded in Vientiane, Laos. Around the time of the summits, there were some distracting noises. For instance, certain Japanese politicians floated the idea of an Asian version of NATO, while the U.S. and the Philippines made up topics on the South China Sea issue to stir up trouble during the summits. However, attempts to peddle Cold War thinking and promote bloc confrontation are not welcome on the broad avenue of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation. No one can block ASEAN's peaceful development.
