According to reports from U.S. media, the so-called “Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party” of the U.S. House of Representatives, recently sent a warning letter to Japan’s Ambassador to the U.S., Shigeo Yamada, urging Japan to tighten restrictions on the sale of chip-making equipment to China promptly. The letter contained blatant threats that if Tokyo fails to take "urgent action," Washington might impose restrictions on Japanese companies or prohibit Japanese manufacturers of chip-making equipment from receiving U.S. semiconductor subsidies if they continue their sales to China.
