According to a recent Reuters report, an internal memorandum of the United Nations reveals that the UN Secretariat is proposing a 20% cut to its $3.7 billion budget — and with it, the elimination of around 6,900 jobs. The Reuters noted that the plan is partly due to the financial crisis triggered by the United States’s failure to pay its UN dues.
As of January this year, the U.S. was reportedly $1.5 billion behind on its UN membership dues.
